Define sedimentation

Pure substances are obtained only after refining, filtration of any mixture. Various methods are involved in separating a mixture. To separate a solid from liquids sedimentation is one of the simplest methods. Sedimentation is defined as the separation process in which solids are separated from the liquid. All the solids settle down at the bottom of a beaker and on top, a clear layer of liquid is obtained.In this process, the heavier impurities present in liquid settle down at the bottom of the container containing the mixture.
