Testis:

  1. In mammals, the testis is the male reproductive organ.
  2. It produces sperm, which is a male sex cell, as well as a sex hormone, testosterone.
  3. Spermatogenesis is a mechanism through which the testis generates sperms.

Histology of testis:

  1. The testis is an oval egg-like structure found in men.
  2. They are two in number.
  3. The testis is a structure consisting of three layers known as the tunica vaginalis, tunica vasculosa, and tunica albuginea.
  4. Each testis has many compartments described as testicular lobules.
  5. In each lobule, there are 1-3 coiled seminiferous tubules.
  6. Sperm is produced by these tubules.
  7. The stratified epithelia of the seminiferous tubules are constituted of Sertoli cells and male germ cells.
  8. These cells divide to become spermatozoa.
  9. The Leydig cells are found between the testosterone-secreting tubules.
