Describe the life history of the silk moth with the help of figures of various stages.

Silkworm:

  1. Bombyx mori (the domestic silkworm) is an economically important insect.
  2. It is a primary producer of silk.

The life cycle of the silk moth:

  1. Firstly eggs are laid by the female silk moth, after that larvae come out from the eggs.
  2. Larvae are known as caterpillars.
  3. By feeding on mulberry leaves they start growing in size.
  4. Before entering to next stage caterpillar covers itself with silk fiber and is called a cocoon.
  5. The next stage is called a pupa.
  6. Now pupa develops into a moth and comes out as an adult silk moth.
