Difference between periodic and non-periodic motion

The motion is characterized as the change in position of an object with respect to its surroundings in a given time interval. The motion of an object with some mass can be defined in terms of displacement, distance, velocity, speed time and acceleration.

Types of motion

  • Translational
  • Oscillatory
  • Simple Harmonic
  • Rotational
  • Periodic
  • Linear
  • Projectile

Difference between the periodic motion and non-periodic motions

The difference between the periodic motion and non-periodic motions are listed below

Periodic motion Non-periodic motion
A motion repeating itself at regular intervals is regarded as periodic motion. A motion that repeats itself is considered a non-periodic motion but not at regular periods of time.
Example: Movement of earth Example: Vehicles
