Question

Draw electron dot structure of butane.

Open in App
Solution

Electron dot structure:

  • It defines the nature of the bond and position of atoms of the molecule which are connected in the molecule.
  • The structures also display the total number of lone pairs present in each of the atoms that constitute the molecule.

Lewis electron dot structure of butane (C4H10) :

With the help of electronic configuration, it is clear that carbon has four and hydrogen has one valence electron.

C=1s2,2s2,2p2

H=1s1

All the bonds formed are covalent means that the electrons are shared between the carbon and hydrogen so that carbon can complete their octet and hydrogen will complete the duplet to obtain stability.
