Question

Draw magnetic field lines around a bar magnet.

Open in App
Solution

Magnetic Field lines and Bar magnet,

  1. Magnetic Field lines- Magnetic field lines are the lines in a magnetic field whose tangent indicates the field direction at any given position and whose density gives the field magnitude.
  2. Bar magnet- A rectangular piece of iron, steel, or any other ferromagnetic substance or ferromagnetic composite with persistent magnetic characteristics is known as a bar magnet.

Magnetic Field lines around a bar magnet.

  1. The magnetic field is the zone in which the force of magnetism acts around a magnetic material or a moving electric charge.
  2. The bar magnet has two poles, one north, and one south, and when suspended freely, the magnet aligns itself so that the north pole faces the earth's magnetic north pole.
  3. The lines of the magnetic field do not intersect.
  4. A magnet's magnetic field lines create continuous closed loops.
  5. The magnitude of the magnetic field B is proportional to the number of field lines crossing per unit area.
  6. A bar magnet's magnetic field lines start at the North Pole and end at the South Pole.
  7. The direction of the net magnetic field B at any place is represented by the tangent to the field line.
