  • CFCs is the abbreviation for Chlorofluorocarbons gases.
  • It contains carbon, chlorine, and fluorine.
  • CFC is famous for its toxicity, reactivity, and flammability.
  • Depletion of ozone is done by CFCs:

  • Dichlorodifluoromethane in the presence of sunlight forms chlorodifluoromethyl radical and chlorine atoms.
  • The chlorine atom then dissociates ozone to give chloromonoxide and oxygen atom.

Uses:

  • It is used as solvents in the manufacture of aerosol sprays, blowing agents for foams, and packing materials
  • It is used as a refrigerant, propellants in medicinal applications, and aerosol sprays.

CFC is chlorofluorocarbon and it is used as refrigerants and solvents in industries.
