Explain compound and mixture by taking an example of iron and sulphur.

A mixture is a combination of matter such that the components used in the formation of the mixture can be separated again.
While a compound is a result of the chemical reaction between components resulting in the formation of a new substance.
Let’s understand this with the help of iron and sulfur.

Things that are required:

a) Iron filings

b) Sulfur

c) Magnet

d) Test tube

e) Burner

Creating mixture:

Take some iron filings and sulfur in powder form. Stir the two elements to form a mixture. These two can be separated with the help of a magnet.

Creating component:

The mixture on the burner. As the mixture gets heated, it starts to glow. Iron filings and sulfur react to form iron sulfide.
