Mixture: A mixture is a substance composed of two or more matter that can be separated with the help of physical methods.

Understanding compound and mixture:

Things that are required: Iron filings, Sulphur, Magnet, Test tube, Burner

Creating Mixture:

  • Take some iron filings and sulphur in powder form.
  • Stir the two elements to form a mixture.
  • These two can be separated with the help of a magnet, as iron has a magnetic character.

Compound: A compound is a substance created by when two or more chemical elements are bound together.

Understanding compound:

Things that are required: Iron filings, Sulphur, Magnet, Test tube, Burner

Creating compound:

  • The mixture is on the burner.
  • As the mixture gets heated, it starts to glow.
  • Iron filings and sulphur react to form iron sulphide.
  • Reaction involved : FeIron+SSulphurFeSIronsulphide

Thus, Iron and Sulphur can exist both as a mixture and in compound form.
