Filtration:

  • Filtration is a process that is used to separate solid particles from a mixture of liquid or gas by using a suitable filter.

The component of the filtration process are:

  1. Filter paper: It is used as a medium of separation of solid particles from a mixture.
  2. Feed: It is a mixture that is to be filtered. it is poured directly into the filter paper where filtration is to happen.
  3. Funnel: It is used for holding the filter paper and storing the residue of filtration. so that it cannot pass to the filtered beaker.
  4. Filtrate: When the mixture is poured into filter paper the liquid part is passed through the paper which is called the filtrate.
  5. Residue: It is the solid part of the mixture that is left on the filter paper.
