Question

Explain how force, energy and work are related?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Force is a type of influence that can alter the state of rest or motion of a body.
  2. When a force applied to a body produces displacement, work is said to be done by the force. If there is no displacement, no work is done.
  3. Work done, W=F·s(where F is the force applied and s is the displacement.
  4. Energy is the capacity of a body to do work. Dimensionally, both quantities are the same. The change in energy of a body may be directly responsible for the work done by it.
  5. Work done = change in energy, i.e W=ΔE=F·s.
