Question

Explain how the atom is neutral as a whole?

Open in App
Solution

Atoms:

  1. Atom is the smallest unit of matter which forms the building blocks of chemical elements.
  2. The atom consists of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
  3. Electrons are negatively charged, protons are positively charged and neutrons are neutral or have no charge at all.
  4. In an atom, the number of electrons is equal to the number of protons, so the net negative charge is cancelled out by the total positive charge.

Hence, atoms are neutral as a whole.
