Explain The Method Of Preparation Of Hydrogen Gas In Laboratory

Preparation steps of hydrogen gas in the laboratory:

  • Zinc granules are taken in a 500 ml flask.
  • With the help of a thistle funnel, dilute HCl or dilute sulphuric acid is added to the flask containing zinc granules.
  • The released gas is hydrogen gas, which is collected by the downward displacement of water because it is a gas lighter than water

The balanced equation of this preparation process is:

\( Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) \rightarrow ZnCl_{2}(aq) + H_{2}(g) \) \( Zn(s) + H_{2}SO_{4}(aq) \rightarrow ZnSO_{4}(aq) + H_{2}(g) \)
