Explain the Rutherford model of atom?

Rutherford model of atom:

  1. i) Atom contains a dense positively charged core of protons called nucleus.
  2. ii) Mass of the atom is present only in the nucleus.

iii) Atom has large empty space.

Radius of the atom is about m, while that of nucleus is about m.

So, ratio of radius of atom to nucleus is about 

  1. iv) Electron revolves around the positively charged nucleus in fixed orbits, like planets orbiting the sun.
