  1. An hourglass is a device used to measure time during ancient times.
  2. It is used to measure time.
  3. Sand is used in an hourglass.
  4. Hence it is also known as a sand clock or a sandglass.
  5. It is made up of two glass bulbs.
  6. The two bulbs are connected to each other vertically through a narrow neck
  7. This narrow neck acts between the two bulbs as a passage that allows the sand to flow in a uniform manner from the upper bulb to the lower one.
  8. The upper and lower bulbs are symmetric to each other in order to ensure the accuracy of the time measured.
