Solution

Step 1: Definition of Velocity

  1. Velocity is defined as the displacement traveled by an object per unit of time.
  2. The SI unit of velocity is m/s.
  3. Velocity is a vector quantity.
  4. Instantaneous velocity can also be determined by calculating the slope of a graph between displacement and time.
  5. If D is the displacement and t is the time taken, then velocity can be mathematically expressed as, v=Dt.
  6. The slope of the given graph gives us the velocity.

Step 2: Example of Velocity

  1. A car traveling at a particular speed in a given direction is an example of velocity.
  2. Consider a uniform circular motion with constant speed. In this type of motion since the direction of the motion is constantly changing we cannot call it uniform velocity.
