Question

________gas released as a result of incomplete burning of fuels.

Open in App
Solution

Carbon monoxide as gas released:

  1. Incomplete combustion of fossil fuels like wood leads to the release of Carbon Monoxide
  2. This occurs due to less supply of oxygen for the burning of fuel.
  3. In a complete combustion reaction, there is a sufficient supply of Oxygen and it evolves into Carbon Dioxide gas.
  4. This is a poisonous gas and causes global warming.

Hydrocarbon+OxygenCarbonmonoxide+Carbon+Water

5. Example: When Methane reacts with Oxygen there is the formation of Carbon Monoxide, Carbon, and Water.

4CH4(g)Methane+5O2(g)Oxygen2CO(g)Carbonmonoxide+2C(s)Carbon+8H2O(g)Water

Hence, Carbon monoxide gas is released as a result of the incomplete burning of fuels.
