m/s is a unit of speed.
Definition
Speed is defined as the rate of change of distance with time. Speed is one of the basic parameter for motion. It is a scalar quantity with only magnitude, not direction. It was first discovered by Galileo.
SI unit of speed
We know that speed is given by the formula
\(\begin{array}{l}speed=\frac{distance}{time}\end{array} \)
Thus we can say that speed can be measured with the SI unit of length (meters) over the SI unit of time (seconds).
Hence SI unit of speed is
\(\begin{array}{l}SI unit of speed=\frac{meter}{second}\end{array} \)
SI unit of speed = ms-1
