Open in App
Solution

Part-1: Given data

  1. Density (ρ)=1.8gml-1
  2. 98%w/wsolution98g solute is present in 100g solution.

Part-2 Calculating molarity(M)

  1. Molarity(M) of a solution is defined as the number of moles per litre of solution.
  2. The solution contains 98gH2SO4, so the number of moles=9898=1mol
  3. Volume of solution(V) =mρ=100g1.8gml-1=100018ml=100018×11000=118litre.
  4. M=numberofmolesVolumeofsolution=1118=18M

Part-3 Calculating molality(m)

  1. Molality is defined as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
  2. In 100g solution 98gis the amount of solute. so the amount of solvent =Total weight of solution -Weight of solute=2g
  3. Weight of solvent in Kg=21000kg
  4. m=numberofmolesofsoluteKilogramofsolvent=121000=500m

Part-4: Calculating Normality(N):

  1. Normality is defined as the gram equivalence of solute per litre of solution.
  2. Gram equivalence is calculated based on the number of ions that react in a chemical reaction.
  3. In 1molH2SO4,2H+ ion reacts in the given reaction.
  4. N=gramequivalenceofsoluteVolumeofsolution.=2118=36N
