Gem-dihalides:-

  1. The di halogen compounds in which both the halogen atoms are attached to the same carbon are called geminal dihalides.
  2. Their common name is Alkylidene dihalide.
  3. An alkylidene group is a class of a divalent functional group.
  4. It is derived from an alkane by removing two hydrogen atoms from the same carbon atom.
  5. In an alkylidene dihalide, the hydrogen atom removed from the same carbon atom is replaced by two halogen groups.
  6. For Example-CH3CHBr2(Propylidene dibromide)1,1-Dibromopropane
