Give an example of substitution reaction.

A substitution reaction is also called a single displacement reaction, single replacement reaction, or single substitution reaction. The reactions in which an atom or group of atoms in a molecule is replaced or substituted by different atoms or group of atoms are called substitution reaction. Halogenation reaction is a type of substitution reaction.

Example

The conversion of methane to Carbon tetrachloride is a substitution reaction as hydrogen atoms are replaced by chlorine atoms.

CH4 + Cl2 → CH3Cl + HCl
