Give examples of sublimation.

Solution

Sublimation

  1. Sublimation is a process of conversion of solid state directly into a gaseous state without converting it into liquid state.
  2. It is a phase transition process that occurs at particular temperature and pressure.
  3. This process is an endothermic process. (a process in which heat is absorbed by the system).
  4. Examples: Dry ice sublimes, Iodine at 100°C sublimates from solid to poisonous purple gas.
  5. Iodine sublimes because their Vander Waals attraction is weak, and dry ice sublimes easily because at room temperature and normal pressure carbon dioxide is usually a gas.

Therefore, sublimation of dry ice, and Iodine are the examples of sublimation.
