Question

Give the energy formula as per Planck's theory.

Open in App
Solution

Planks quantum theory

  1. Different atoms and molecules can emit or absorb energy in discrete quantities.
  2. The smallest amount of energy that can be emitted or absorbed in the form of electromagnetic radiation by atoms or molecules is known as quantum.
  3. The energy of the quantum absorbed or emitted is directly proportional to the frequency of the radiation.

Energy of radiation is expressed as,

E=nhϑ

Where, n is a positive integer, h is the planks constant(6.626×10-34Js) and ϑ is the frequency of radiation.

It can also be expressed as

E=nhvλϑ=vλ

where v is the speed of light and λ is the wavelength of light

E=nhν=nhνλ is the energy formula as per Planck's theory.
