Give two examples of each: (a) Kharif crop and (b) Rabi crop

On the basis of the sowing and harvesting seasons, Indian crops are classified into two broad categories-

Kharif crops:

  1. When the Indian sub-continent starts experiencing monsoon during the months of June or July, then Kharif crops are sown.
  2. The harvesting of Kharif crops is done during the months of mid-September to October.
  3. Examples of Kharif crops: Rice, cotton, and maize.

Rabi crops:

  1. When the Indian sub-continent starts experiencing winter during that period, Rabi crops are sown, which is in the months of November-December.
  2. These crops are harvested after three-four months of being sown i.e., during the months of April-May.
  3. Examples of Rabi crops: Wheat, mustard, pulses.
