1. In major cases the plants are autotrophs and the plants which are growing inland depend upon soil for their survival.
2. Not only water is provided to the plants but also nutrients are supplied to them through the soil. Some ionic molecules also reach the plants through the soil.
3. Soil provides anchorage to the plants.
4. Many insects, animals and numerous organism make their home in the soil.
5. It plays an important role in the biogeochemical cycle, it helps in the recycling of certain nutrients of nature.
