Biotechnology is a field which deals with using research tools from biology and chemistry to understand and solve problems and even in the treatment of human diseases. It can be used to learn genetic material of pathogens(bacteria and viruses) to determine and hence treat the diseases. Also, it can be used to understand the genes factor contributing to human diseases. This way it also helps doctors analyze genomes of patients and propose an appropriate panacea.
Biotechnology has two majors – genetics and molecular biology, significant in creating new medicine. Authorized medicines derived from advancements of biotechnology are already in use -preventing and treating strokes, heart attacks, leukaemia, multiple sclerosis, congestive heart failure, hepatitis, cancer of the kidney, lymphoma, fibres of the cysts and so on.
New drugs offer remarkable clinical benefits and hence better health care to save lives. New medicines are being produced in biotechnology labs such as interferons and insulin which were created through biotechnology. The principles for this are based on bacteria and genes to produce insulin saving millions of people suffering from diabetes by just adjusting their blood sugar levels. Genetically-engineered cells are used to manufacture interferon which prevents the expansion of viruses and tumours in the human body.
