How chemosynthetic autotrophic bacteria recycle nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur?

Open in App
Solution

Chemosynthetic autotrophic bacteria:

  1. Chemosynthetic autotrophic bacteria mainly perform the function of oxidation.
  2. These bacteria oxidize inorganic materials and produce their food.
  3. The examples of these bacteria are Beggiatoa, and Nitrosomonas.

Process of recycling of nutrients by chemosynthetic autotrophic bacteria:

  1. These bacteria make a great contribution to the recycling of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur.
  2. For obtaining energy they oxidize inorganic materials.
  3. In the process of oxidization, they oxidize hydrogen sulfide to sulphur, ammonia to nitrite, and further to nitrate.
  4. In this way, these chemosynthetic autotrophic bacteria are helping the ecosystem.
