The characterization of metaphase:

  1. Metaphase refers to a stage in the process of cell division.
  2. In this phase, the chromosomes reach the opposite ends of the cell.
  3. The centromeres of the chromosomes lie on the metaphase plate which is an imaginary plate in an equidistant position between the two poles of spindle fiber.
  4. For every chromosome, the kinetochores of the sister chromatids are connected to kinetochore microtubules coming from opposite poles.
