Open in App
Solution

Bond order:

  1. It is defined as the number of electrons involved in bonding between two atoms in a molecule.
  2. It is used to determine the stability of a chemical bond. The greater the bond order, the stronger the chemical bond.
  3. The bond order of NO3- can be calculated using its lewis dot structure as shown:
  4. Bond order=totalnumberofbondsnumberofbondsgroup
  5. In NO3- we have four N-O bonds and three bond groups.
  6. So, bond order =431.33

Therefore, the bond order of NO3-is 1.33
