Fertilization in flowers:

  1. Fertilization is the process through which plants reproduce sexually.

  5. The pistil is the female reproductive component of the flower.
  6. It is made up of three parts: a stigma that accepts pollen, a style, and a lengthy tube that connects to the ovary, where fertilization takes place.

There are four main steps to the fertilization process in plants:

  1. Pollination:
    1. In this, the pollen-coated male gametes are dispersed by water, wind, or other natural forces like animals and insects.
    2. The pollen is then directed to land on the plant's stigma.
    3. Pollination is the name given to this procedure.
  2. Germination:
    1. The pollen tube grows throughout this phase and enters the egg cell in a matter of minutes.
    2. The tube acts as a route for the pollen particle to travel in order to reach the egg.
  3. Ovule Penetration:
    1. The sperm-containment pollen tube enters the embryo sac or ovule.
  4. Fertilization:
    1. The sperms move through the tube to fertilize the egg after entering the ovule successfully.
    2. Fertilization is the process by which a male gamete fuses with a female gamete to generate a diploid zygote (2n).
    3. Double fertilization occurs when one male gamete fuses with an egg and another male gamete fuses with a secondary nucleus.
    4. It eventually leads to the production of the seed's endosperm (food-storage tissue).
