Question

How long does it take the moon to orbit the earth?

Open in App
Solution

The period of the moon revolution around the earth is called a sidereal month. Our Moon [1] revolves around the Earth in a month. It also rotates around its own axis, also in a month. Moon’s sidereal orbital period (full circle, looking from afar) is around 27,3 days. 7 hours, 43 minutes and 41 seconds. It also takes exactly this long for it to rotate once, which is why we always see only one side of the Moon.
