Open in App
Solution

Convert improper fraction to mixed fraction

Improper fraction: Fraction whose numerator is greater than the denominator.

Mixed fraction: A mixed fraction is a combination of a whole number and fraction.

Now to convert an improper fraction to mixed fraction, first divide its numerator by the denominator.

Then, write the quotient of the division as the whole number of the mixed fraction and the remainder of the division as the numerator with the same denominator of the improper fraction.

For example: Convert 172to mixed fraction.

First divide 17 by 2, we get;

2817-161

Here, the quotient =8 and remainder =1

So mixed fraction of given number is 812.

Hence, conversion of improper fraction to mixed fraction can be done in above described way.
