Question

How to find magnetic flux from the magnetic field?

Open in App
Solution

Magnetic field and magnetic flux

  1. The magnetic field is a region around a magnetic material within which the force of magnetism acts. The SI unit of the magnetic field is weber/meter 2.
  2. The magnetic flux is defined as the total number of magnetic field lines passing through a given area. The SI unit of magnetic flux is weber (wb).

Magnetic flux from the magnetic field

Considering a magnetic field B making an angle θ with the normal to the surface A. The magnetic flux through the surface is given by the form ϕ=BAcosθ.The magnetic flux is the dot product of magnetic field and area. If we know the magnetic field, area, and angle between the normal to the area and the magnetic field, then we can easily find the magnetic flux.
