Question

How to represent frequency? Also, what is the definition of frequency?

Open in App
Solution

Definition of frequency:

  1. Frequency is defined as the number of total waves or number of vibrations produced in one second.
  2. Frequency, ν=1T.

Representation of frequency:

  1. Frequency is a parameter of the wave. Frequency is represented by ν.
  2. Frequency, v=cλ, where c and λ are the velocity of light and wavelength respectively.
  3. Again, frequency, ν=1T, where T is the time period of any wave.
  4. Frequency is inversely proportional to wavelength. If wavelength increases, then the frequency will decrease, i.e, the number of complete waves will decrease.
