Define triangles and its type:

A closed figure having three sides and three vertices is said to be a triangle.

A triangle can be classified on the basis of its sides as well as its angle.

Classification on the basis of sides:

  1. A triangle whose all three sides have different measures is called a scalene triangle.
  2. A triangle whose two sides have equal measures is called an isosceles triangle.
  3. A triangle whose all three sides have equal measures is called an equilateral triangle.

Classification on the basis of angles:

  1. A triangle whose all three angles are less than 90° is called an acute triangle.
  2. A triangle whose any one angle is greater than 90° is called an obtuse triangle.
  3. A triangle whose any one angle is of 90° is called a right triangle or a right-angled triangle.
