Female reproductive system:

  1. The reproductive system of females is certainly involved in the function of reproduction.
  2. The various organs of the female reproductive system are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina.
  3. Ovary: It produces and releases eggs.
  4. Fallopian tube: Also called oviduct, it is the site where fertilization takes place.
  5. Uterus: It is the site where implantation of the embryo occurs.
  6. Cervix: Here a mucosal plug develops that inhibits the embryo from coming out of the vagina.
  7. Vagina: It is also called the birth canal, the fully matured body comes out through the vagina.

Implantation:

  1. The process of implantation takes place in the uterus.
  2. The uterus is a pear-shaped, hollow organ.
  3. The embryo gets embedded into the wall of the uterus and remains there until it gets fully matured.
  4. After maturation, the embryo develops into a foetus.
  5. In the case of humans, the time that the embryo takes to fully develop is 9 months which is called the gestation period.
