  2. The main function of heartwood is to provide mechanical strength to the trees.
  3. These are hard, durable, and resistant to pest attack.
  4. It is made up of dead and lignified elements.

Temperate evergreen forests:

  1. These are actually the forests that are just restricted to only the heavy rainfall areas.
  2. These temperate evergreen forests are basically found in the Western ghats.
  3. Also found in the island groups of Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar and also the upper parts of the Assam and the Tamil Nadu coast.
  4. These forests are present here just because of the heavy rainfall.
  5. These temperate evergreen forests are actually found in the coastal regions.
  6. And in these temperate evergreen forest both softwood and hardwood trees can be found.
