Question

Is multiplication associative for rational numbers?

Open in App
Solution

Define associative property :

The associative property states that you can add or multiply regardless of how the numbers are grouped.

if you are adding or multiplying it does not matter where you put the parenthesis.

For example, we consider rational numbers 12 and 57. Then,

12×57=1×52×7=514 is a rational number.

Hence, we can say that multiplication is associative for rational numbers.
