Solution

Kingdom Plantae:

  1. All the plants belong to this kingdom.
  2. Plants in this kingdom are all multicellular, eukaryotic, and autotrophic.
  3. Plants possess a very rigid cell wall which is made up of cellulose mainly.
  4. All the plants possess chlorophyll for performing the process of photosynthesis.

Divisions of Plantae kingdom:

  1. Thallophyta: These organisms do not have very well-differentiated body parts and the body is thallus-like.
Examples - Volvox, Fucus, Spirogyra, etc.
  2. Bryophyta: These plants have root-like, stem-like, and leaf-like structures but they lack vascular tissues.
Examples - Marchantia, Funaria, Sphagnum, etc.
  3. Pteridophyta: Such plants possess a system of vascular tissues and they also have a well-differentiated body with roots, stem, and leaves.
Example - Selaginella, Pteris, Equisetum, etc.
  4. Gymnosperms: These plants are characterized by plants that bear naked seeds, with a quite differentiated plant body and well-developed vascular tissues.
Example - Pinus, Ginkgo, Cycas, etc.
  5. Angiosperms: They are also called flowering plants, and are the most advanced seed-bearing plants.
Example - Mango, rose, tomato, etc.

Riccia and Funaria:

  1. They are non-vascular plants, which means they do not have any vascular tissues.
  2. They are found on the land.
  3. They are also referred to as “amphibians of the plant kingdom” because they require water to survive and reproduce.

Conclusion:

Since all the above-given features of Riccia and Funaria resemble that of Bryophytes thus, they belong to the division Bryophyta.
