Question

Light from a bulb is falling on a wooden table but no photoelectrons are emitted. Why?

Solution

Work function:

It is defined as the minimum quantity of energy which is required to eject an electron from the surface of a given solid, usually a metal.

Explanation:

  1. Since the work function of wood is more than the energy of the striking photons of light.
  2. Hence, there is no ejection of photoelectrons from the wooden table.

Hence, bulb light is not enough for the emission of electrons from the wood.
