Question

How does meiosis II occur?

Open in App
Solution

Meiosis II:

  1. When one of the two twin halves of a replicated chromosome gets separated it performs meiosis II.
  2. It is smaller than mitotic division as the prophase becomes shorter.
  3. At the end of the reduction division, it keeps the number of chromosomes produced at the end.
  4. It is often termed equational or homotypic division.
  5. They can be differentiated from each other in the linkage group as crossing over.

Stages of Meiosis II:

  1. Prophase II– The cell organelles get disappeared in this stage as the chromosomes get condensed.
  2. Metaphase II– The metaphase plate gets formed due to aligning of the chromosomes at the equator.
  3. Anaphase II– During this stage the chromosomes are pulled apart from each other and thus they get separated.
  4. Telophase II– The chromosomes being condensed, get back into a lump that cannot be differentiated.
