Solution

Reactions:

  • Sodium Nitrate(NaNO3) reacts with Sulphuric acid(H2SO4) to form Nitric acid(HNO3).
  • 2NaNO3SodiumNitrate+H2SO4SulphuricAcid>200°Na2SO4SodiumSulphate+2HNO3NitricAcid
  • In the laboratory, it is very difficult to raise and maintain the temperature nearly to 200°.
  • If the temperature rises above the preferred value of temperature, the nitric acid formed may also decompose.
  • Also, the test tube or the vessel in which the experiment is performing may melt at high temperature.

Therefore, Sodium Nitrate(NaNO3) is not used for the preparation of nitric acid in the laboratory.
