Question

Name the factors on which momentum depends on.

Open in App
Solution

Step1: Momentum

  1. It is a property of a moving body that the body has because of its mass and motion and that is equal to the product of the body's mass and velocity.
  2. In other words, it is a property of a moving body that determines the length of time required to bring it to rest when under the action of a constant force.
  3. It is a vector quantity and has both magnitude and direction.
  4. Mathematically, momentump=massm X velocityv

Hence p=mv

Step2: Factors on which momentum depends

The momentum of a body depends upon the following factors :

  1. Mass of a body m
  2. Velocity of a body v

Thus, momentum is dependent on the mass and velocity of the body.
