Applications of a screw gauge:

  1. To measure the exact diameter of a wire and thus its radius.
  2. To measure the fine thickness of a slab of glass or a metallic sheet.
  3. To measure the diameter or radius of a lead shot and hence determine its volume.
  4. To measure the exact volume of an irregular or regular lamina of uniform thickness.
