Solution

Seed coat

  1. The term "seed coat" refers to a seed's outer layer.
  1. There are two layers. The outermost layer, testa, is the thickest. The inner layer is called tegmen. The seed is shielded from water and sunlight by its thick seed coat. It stops the seeds from absorbing parasites and losing water. When the environmental circumstances are not favourable, the hard seed coatings hinder germination.
