Solution

Disinfection of water:

  1. Disinfection is the process of removing, deactivating, or destroying pathogenic bacteria from water.
  2. Microorganisms are killed or rendered dormant, preventing them from reproducing and growing.
  3. It is one of the necessary steps in the water treatment plant.
  4. Methods for disinfecting water include Chlorination, Iodine, and Bromine pills, Ozone, etc.

Chlorination:

  1. Because chlorination provides persistent disinfection effects for a long period of time, it is widely used in public water sources.
  2. It meets all of the criteria for a perfect disinfectant. It protects against any further contamination. The only drawback is that it leaves a bad taste

Ozone:

  1. The disinfectant ozone is more strong than chlorine. The cost of ozone is higher than the cost of chlorine.
  2. It doesn't offer any long-term protection against recontamination.
  3. On a limited scale, it is used to disinfect water, such as swimming pool waters.

Iodine pills:

  1. Iodine provides longer-lasting protection against infections and reduces objectionable tastes and odors when compared to chlorine.
  2. Because it is expensive, it is utilized for public water delivery.

Therefore, two chemicals used to disinfect water are ozone and chlorine.
