Produces genetic diversity.
One of the main and important advantages of sexual reproduction over asexual reproduction is that sexual reproduction produces genetic diversity. This is mainly due to the fusion of male and female gametes. There is the involvement of two parents, the male and female, their gametes fuse to form the zygote, which contains the genetic information from both the parents. This produces diversity. The zygote develops into an individual organism that is genetically distinct from the parent organisms. This is in contrast to asexual reproduction where an organism reproduces without involving gametes and the resulting offspring is a clone of the parent.
