Question

P-type material is created by using a dopant from the group:

Open in App
Solution

P- type material:

  • Semiconductors like Germanium or Silicon doped with any of the trivalent atoms like Boron, Indium, or Gallium are called p-type semiconductors.
  • The dopant is a substance used to produce a desired electrical characteristic in a semiconductor.
  • In p-type doping, Boron or Gallium is used as the dopant.
  • These elements each have three electrons in their outer orbitals. So, they form three covalent bonds but at the place of the fourth electron, a hole is created.
  • The hole moves through the crystal-like a positive charge giving rise to electrical conductivity.

Therefore, P-type material is created by using a dopant from group 13
