Semiconductors like Germanium or Silicon doped with any of the trivalent atoms like Boron, Indium, or Gallium are called p-type semiconductors.
The dopant is a substance used to produce a desired electrical characteristic in a semiconductor.
In p-type doping, Boron or Gallium is used as the dopant.
These elements each have three electrons in their outer orbitals. So, they form three covalent bonds but at the place of the fourth electron, a hole is created.
The hole moves through the crystal-like a positive charge giving rise to electrical conductivity.
