Metallic oxides:

  1. These solids are basically the crystalline solids that just contain a metal cation as well as an Oxide ion.
  2. So, Sodium is a metal which will form the metallic oxides and these oxides are just basic in nature.
  3. Sodium is basically an alkali metal and with Oxygen it will form Sodium oxide (Na2O).
  4. Actually the two Sodium cations and one Oxygen anion will make up the Sodium oxide molecule.
  5. So, this Na2O will actually features the two Sodium-Oxygen ionic bonds.

Therefore, Sodium forms metallic oxides which are basic in nature:
