Question

The direction of buoyant force is always

Open in App
Solution

Buoyant force:

  1. When a body is immersed in the fluid, an upward force is exerted by the fluid on the body, this upward force is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the body and is called the force of buoyancy.

The direction of buoyant force:

  1. Buoyant force is continually opposite to the direction of acceleration due to gravity, because the direction of gravity is same as the direction of weight and the buoyant force is just opposite to it.
  2. At the center of Buoyancy, the buoyant force is applied properly. The object is immersed in it, and that is the center of the volume of fluid it has displaced.
  3. The center of Gravity (center of mass) of the material is where gravity drags an material or object downward.
  4. We can therefore conclude that the buoyant force exerts an upward pull on an item immersed in a fluid, acting in opposition to the downward force of the object's weight caused by gravity.

Hence, the direction of buoyant force is always vertically upward direction
